NoCA Training: R Programming for Actuaries – Intermediate Level, is being presented by Rodwel Mupamberei, FIA.

Rodwel is a qualified Actuary since 2013 and has worked in a freelance capacity for few of the large UK insurers. He has applied machine techniques using R in an insurance setting by identifying hidden patterns in data and building predictive models with the aim of providing new business insights. Rodwel is an active data science practitioner using R and Python and has presented on data science at various IFoA seminars and conferences.

Course Level: Intermediate

Course Dates: The course will comprise of 5 lessons of 1 hour each on:

1. 1st February 2022, 12pm – 1pm GMT

2. 3rd February 2022, 12pm – 1pm GMT

3. 7th February 2022, 12pm – 1pm GMT

4. 9th February 2022, 12pm – 1pm GMT and

5. 10th February 2022, 12pm – 1pm GMT.

A NoCA Training Certificate will be provided on the completion of the course. A Virtual Classroom will be provided for participants to test live programs. Prior beginner’s level knowledge of the R programming language required to attend.

No software installation required.

Course Modules:

The Course will cover the following modules:

1. Working with databases in R, data preparation, storage and management best practices.

2. Automating R workflows with code control flow statements, code optimisation, iterations and user functions.

3. R design principles, package management, testing and version control.

4. Capital modelling in R using non-linear models including tree based models and neural networks.

5. Packaging R code into production environments and introduction to high performance distributed computing with Spark.

Each module will comprise of exercises and case studies.
